Adults can experience communication difficulties stemming from a variety of factors:

The certified speech-language pathologists at Crossroads Speech & Hearing, Inc. have experience in diagnosing communication disorders and developing individualized treatment plans in conjunction with our clients to meet their personal goals.

Communication disorders may have a sudden onset such as a noted with a stroke or a laryngectomy. Or, can deteriorate over time as often is evident with Parkinson's Disease and multiple sclerosis. Communication disorders in adults can also result from vocal overuse and abuse. Still, yet, the communication difficulties may not have any medical basis but are a detriment to daily functioning at home and work.

Individuals experiencing swallowing difficulties are also referred to speech language pathologists who receive specialized treating in management of swallowing deficits often associated with neurological disorders. The speech pathologist works closely with the client and the physician to implement a plan of treatment to improve eating and nutrition along with preventing further medical complications associated with aspiration of foods and liquids.
